Medico-Legal

Medico-legal work is undertaken by Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Dr Hazel Pilgrim, who has over 15 years experience of medico-legal work.

Dr Pilgrim is well-established in the north west of England in the areas of personal injury, forensic, industrial tribunals and insurance claims work and is registered as an Expert Witness, Full curriculum vitae.

Dr Pilgrim is able to provide a variety of assessments and reports to meet the requirements of your individual case. Dr Pigrim also carries out assessments for forensic cases. All assessments take place face to face, either at 11, St John St, Manchester or at a mutually convenient location e.g solicitors office.

In the majority of cases assessments and reports are provided for personal injury, industrial tribunal and insurance claims. The assessment involves a combination of clinical interview and psychometric questionnaires.

After receiving your instructions, and copies of relevant medical records, Dr Pilgrim will be in touch with the referrer, usually the instructing solicitor, confirming acceptance of the instructions and the scope of the report. An appointment letter with the earliest possible date will be sent to your client, along with appropriate psychometric questionnaires, which the client needs to fill out and bring with them to the appointment. A copy of the appointment letter is also sent to the referrer.

Clinical interviews normally last between 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Following this assessment, a full report is completed and sent to the referrer, with the invoice. Fees are based on the total number of hours taken which is usually between 6 and 12 for straightforward cases.

Comprehensive Assessment

If we discover at any point during the process that a more comprehensive assessment is required, we will advise you of this in advance of proceeding. This would become obvious from either the letter of instruction, accompanying information, or during a clinical assessment.

Mostly we find this applies to forensic cases, however some personal injuries cases can also be very complex.
Any additional time incurred to undertake a Comprehensive Assessment would be agreed in advance and added to the invoice at our standard hourly rate.

Dr Pilgrim is highly experienced in this arena and has worked on a number of high profile personal injury, civil and criminal cases. She is also on the UK Expert Witness register.
