She specialises in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), a very effective therapy that can assist with a wide range of emotional difficulties, Anxiety, Depression, and Stress Disorders (including post traumatic stress disorder).
Dr Pilgrim holds the highest possible qualification in the psychology field, a PhD, during which she developed a successful model for the treatment of PTSD. Her model is still used today to inform therapy practice on PTSD, and was published in the book ‘Reconstructing Early Intervention After Trauma, Innovations in the Care of Survivors’. Dr Pilgrim’s interest in stress disorders can be further seen in the ground-breaking PTSD Research Trial she conducted alongside Professor Nick Tarrier at Manchester University. She is a member of the UK Trauma Group.
During her many years as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Dr Pilgrim has worked closely with the Fire Services, the Ministry of Defence and NHS.
She is a Chartered member and Associated Fellow of The British Psychology Society, the professional body for psychology and psychologists in the UK. This means she subscribes to a high standard of ethics and keeps on top of emerging research on therapies and conditions. Dr Pilgrim is also a registered as a therapist with Bupa.
Dr Pilgrim is registered as an Expert Witness and is highly experienced in providing Medico-legal assessments, professional reports and Court evidence.
Dr Pilgrim has been widely published in a variety of professional journals and has presented at many conferences internationally.
